Music is the universal language of mankind. ― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
It’s not about standing still and becoming safe. If anybody wants to keep creating they have to be about change.” ― Miles Davis

One more repost this week while still healing – some thoughts on how to find the good even when you’re feeling pretty bad!
Today’s repost seems appropriate as I am unable to write due to shingles in my EYE! Ewww And apparently this is caused by stress. So let’s all breathe together.
The peace that comes with realizing how very little it matters what strangers think about what you are doing or how you look is priceless. It’s also simple but not easy.
Hate the players or hate the game? How will we move our country forward?
No matter what phase of life you’re in, remember to find those times that offer you grace and space.
Never let the number of friends you have matter more than the depth of your connections.
No two besties, siblings, or parents melt down at the same time.
L’s wanderlust leads her to ponder where the next horizon of her life will appear.
Today is a repost but I’ve been having so many conversations like this lately I thought it was worth putting back out there.
What were you made for? Today we’d love to hear where your authentic self belongs! Let us know in the comments below Here’s L’s:
How do you honor the end of a beautiful chapter of your life? Maybe Tiffany’s is the answer…
How do you find your bliss? Do you ever wonder if your heart is happy with your actions?
How are you there for people when you can’t actually be there? ….
We all tell ourselves stories, which ones do you choose to listen to? How do we rewrite them once we are tired of hearing the same ones year after year? More …
Our daughter, (our baby!) just accepted her invite to college last night (Go Lumberjacks). I’m still in shock as I write this seeing as I feel like John and I’ve only been out of college (Go Badgers) for like 5 years (turns out it’s 34 – math was not my strongest subject). But of course […]
So why the name Lit Sugar? Well hopefully it’s sorta catchy? It’s supposed to be 🙂 But it really stems from my original hopes for this site – to be sweet and kind – qualities that mean so much to me and that I strive for every day. And also to start something – to […]
I am you. I am your sister, neighbor, friend or mom. In short I am an ordinary everyday woman you’d meet on any day of the week. I don’t have the directions to the fountain of youth (I can’t even read maps), nor do I have any idea what trick will make you lose 20 […]
Welcome, I’m glad that you made it to this page! It takes a lot of courage to write about yourself in a public space. Why did I do it? I chose to start this project with my bestie because… we get it. If it has happened, between our families and life happenings, we have probably […]
I absolutely love AAA and just wanted to hop on to extol its amazingness. I cannot think of another club I’ve joined that has been even remotely as useful. As a kid I remember my mom going to the AAA office and getting our “Triptik” – anyone else remember those? Ok, so for you youngins […]
I grew up about 30 minutes away from Green Bay, Wisconsin. To say that football was a big deal in my hometown is a gross understatement. Driving into town there are miles of billboards with the current team’s hero larger than life telling you why you should buy a car at a specific dealership. We […]
“It’s fine, I’m sure I’ll figure it out”. Is this a sort of life mantra for anyone else? I feel like I should have a t-shirt that says it. I’ve said it my whole life and it really does end up being the truth. Clearly I am talking on a personal level – I understand […]
Once upon a time, I was magic and could move mountains, or build them. The world was simple and I had glitter on my feet and left a trail of sparkles wherever I sailed through life. I was kind and generous. My light wasn’t dim. I had an amazing dreamy first job and had met […]
I’m not doing it. No thank you. I’ll pass. I’m not starting my new year in January. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not moving out to the desert to be a hermit or anything, I’ll still change the year on my checks. But this whole idea of a gluttonous December (allll the way til the […]
After one of our moves and our first holiday, our new neighbors celebrated Christmas Eve Eve. I loved it! I’m a celebratory kind of gal! I celebrate everything, there’s nothing better than goodwill and a reason to be happy with others! Christmas Eve Eve is an awesome idea, you have to stop and celebrate, and […]
Christmas Eve Eve Eve, who knew? I am swinging from the chandeliers! It’s good that none of my usual partners in crime are available! 😉 I will have to make Holidays and sprinkle joy wherever the day takes me. That’s where you come in… What a long weeeeek. And then to get the gift of […]
Everyone is on a different Journey. In case you aren’t exactly in the celebratory season this Holiday. This is for you. I’m a bubbly, make-it-happen kinda gal. Celebratory, whether it’s the tiniest win, a big win, my win, or the checkout person at the grocery store’s win. I celebrate. Someone said to me, see, you’re […]
Happy 2024! Ok, you know how I said no one HAS to be all behind and stressed out at holidays? While I still believe that is true – that was not the case for me this year! Our family has one birthday on Halloween, another exactly one week later, another mid-December and then one 2 […]
LM … Clementines are in my Toolbox! Yes, I said it. Who knew? When did it come to be? I don’t remember. However, it always brings smiles when I share it, and for sure it’s helpful and you won’t forget it. In fact I just used it with my dad on the Holiday vacation. He […]
LOVE LOVE LOVE LM’s Christmas memories! And it’s funny that in all this time I haven’t heard these stories before! My journey with Christmas in paradise started out a little differently – so I spent my Christmases in snowy, cold, northern Wisconsin where my only reference to palm trees was through songs like Mele Kalikimaka, […]
There’s Christmas at home and then there is Christmas with Palm Trees. Yes, I capped that, because they are THAT great! I grew up in the Midwest and our family is five snowbird generations deep in Florida. Jingle Bells is playing at the airport right now, I’m not joking. I’m sitting at the departures bag […]
When my daughter was two, her favorite holiday movie was The Grinch, the Jim Carey version. To say that she was fascinated was an understatement, she probably watched it 200 times! Ok, it felt like 200 and quite possibly that is a lifetime total. We had a big red chenille sectional couch in a lower […]
I have what I call “mom memories” a lot – little things that have happened over the years with my kids, my mom, moms of my friends and clients. They usually bring a laugh, often an eye roll, but always a smile. My Mom Memory today was actually about MY mom. One Christmas she came […]
This post was actually written the first Saturday of November but feels so relevant because on top of career full time jobs, managing our lives full time jobs, momming full time jobs, tis the season to add Holiday to full time jobs. I have an empty nest and now no one to manage but me […]
Believe it or not, what follows is not an ad. Lit Sugar is not affiliated with the products listed – no one who knows me would think of me as an influencer. That said, I am weirdly obsessed with my hair. I was lucky to get a combo of my mom’s and my grandma’s, it’s […]
This morning I decided to have my coffee with a gift of Ryze from my bestie. It’s the last day of November and I like to take the time to enjoy the season while decorating. My tree is 10 years old, and I love her. It lived first in my house in the family hangout […]
Just in time for the holidays – it’s your very own get out of chaos free card! Who says you have to run yourself ragged checking off shopping lists, decorating anything that doesn’t move, attending each and every holiday opportunity in your town and surrounding area? Who made that up? Does it bring you joy? […]
The Holidays. We all have memories of the Holidays, starting when we were starry eyed children. The families gathered, football games were back to back, the men watched and guarded the house, managed the bloody Mary stations and assorted beverages for the weekend, the women created the magic in the home, the kitchen, and the […]
Two Sugars, 20+ years of friendship, 13 houses, 7 companies, 4 babies, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 6 states, and over 800 million lessons and counting. Put all of this together and what do you get? One safe, soft landing pad for anyone in need of a laugh, a cry or some different perspectives on life. […]
So grateful you stopped by! May this day and every day be filled with reasons to be thankful. What’s your favorite thing about Thanksgiving Day? For a lot of people holidays are brutiful by nature – brutal and beautiful at the same time. How do you keep yourself focused on the beauty and what strategies […]
Hi there, this past week was number 46 and on Thursday there were 46 days left in the year. Whether you call this squared or said “JINX!” with your bestie, 46 still has some breathing room left before the year picks up. My mom was born in 1946. Sometimes when I would swim (more for […]
Seeing as cold and flu season is quickly approaching and Covid is popping up all over the place I thought I’d share an easy, inexpensive detox bath that always helps me feel better quicker. Full disclosure: I first heard about this on The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills (I know I know, it’s a guilty […]
Since Covid cut my vacation short and “sent me to my room” I’ve had some time to think. It seems like a lot of times when we are less energetic – maybe we’re sick, maybe we’re blue or our depression is popping up again – we feel like we have to tough it out, find […]
Did you feel like a sloth after the Super Blue Moon? The day of I felt vitalized, energetic and ready to let it all go! The next day I could barely keep my head up. I know moon phases can affect sleep patterns but I had slept like a baby that night. So what’s up […]
Tonight marks a Super Blue Moon – “Super” because of how it aligns with the planets and “Blue” because it is the second full moon in the month. What does that mean? I think the best answer that I’ve heard came from my awesome yoga teacher – Something … or nothing. Typically in yogi world […]
