Permission To Ink

My daughter decided that on birthday 18 she was getting a tattoo. I had played with the notion of getting one for years, but I always found a reason not to. From my dad not liking them (and being a daddy’s girl), to not finding the perfect design, to thinking I was too old, I figured it wasn’t meant to happen.

But she and I have been through a lot together – hospitals, doctors, therapists (both physical and other) – it was mucky and hard and we made it through even stronger. So when she said she was determined to get one, I knew the time had finally come for me as well.

It was she who gave me the permission slip this time.

And as soon as she did, I knew exactly what I wanted. And now whenever I see it I think about what it means and I remember how strong and brave this beautiful young woman I raised is.

If you need permission to forget about age, perfect designs, or what other people think – here’s your pass to make your mark (on yourself).
